Check out the animal wellness topics on my YouTube channel! I’ve been able to interview great people who have deep knowledge on how to keep our animals healthy and connected to life. I learned so much when I interviewed them and wanted to share this with you!
Holistic Veterinary Modalities
I have office hours at the Veterinary Holistic Center in Springfield, Virginia. Because of that, I’ve been able to interview veterinarians about many animal wellness topics.
Chiropractic and Massage
Dr. Jordan Kocen, DVM.CVA, shares the advantages of chiropractic care and massage for keeping our animals moving through life. Many times, this is literally the key to animal wellness!
Dog massage
My dogs absolutely love massage! I have to be extremely gentle in areas that hurt. You’ll know it – they’ll stare hard at you, grab your hand (gently but firmly) or simply walk away. Be sure to back off when you get that reaction. Try a softer touch or a different area that they love.
Cat massage
Watch me do a little massage on my cat, Mac. I’ve noticed cats are more wary of “weird” touch than most dogs. So patience is a huge virtue when trying something new. Mac lets me do more as time goes by.
More on chiropractic care
Dr. Kelly Foltman, DVM, CVC, CVA takes a deeper dive into chiropractic care for maintaining or restoring animal wellness.
Herbal medicines for our animals
Dr. Kocen talks about the benefits of herbal medicine to keep our animals healthy.
My 13-year old pup, Stella takes two medicines daily to keep her spirits up as she loses her sight and hearing. It works for her – we’ve noticed a difference in her affect..
My consult with Dr, Kocen was fascinating. We discussed Sella’s personality as well as her physical well being. After this discussion, he selected the right herbal medicines for Stella. And we tweaked it after a second consultation. Despite her physical limitations, she is still finding joy and she isn’t giving up when she stumbles or gets a bit confused.
The cost of the Chinese Herbal Medicine is surprisingly reasonable compared to most pharmaceuticals. We use it in addition to her pharmaceutical eye drop prescriptions. And it’s sourced and produced in the United States.
Navigating the Pet Food Maze
I loved interviewing Terry Grow. Her expertise helped me understand proper diets for our companion animals and their nutrient needs.
She covered the pros and cons of dry, canned, dehydrated, freeze-dried, raw and homemade pet foods? Why is water critical.
And although I learned to read food labels, Terri provided me with a better understanding of what to look for.
Her goal is the same as our goal – how to increase our animals lives – their longevity – with nutrition through their food. Another key to animal wellness.
These were just a few of the videos on animal wellness, so please “peruse” Animal Wellness under my Playlist tab.
Interested in acupuncture?
Do you use complimentary or alternative modalities for your animals? I’d love to hear about it!
I meditate with my dog every morning and she gets a massage morning and before she goes to sleep. She often directs my hands to the areas that need work or as soon as I sit down with her I may get a feeling in my own body that tells me to concentrate on a certain area. She also gets reiki and energy clearing on a regular basis because she is a healer and tends to hold the negative energy she takes from people.
Maria, I so enjoy hearing this! Thank you for sharing! Mb
