Here’s Three Fun Cat Stories Part 3! It could also be called an awesome cat story.
My UConnect animal communication student, Z, told us this story. It’s about one of the outdoor cats she and other neighbors take care of. (Revised for clarity and brevity).
Z shares:
“Thor is a wild cat who visits many different houses in our neighborhood, including mine.
“Recently, I met up with one of the other women that Thor visits. “Geraldine” (not her real name) shared this extraordinary story about her latest interactions with Thor.
“In 2022, Thor spend a good amount of time with Geraldine and her husband, Randy. And then Thor left. But because he was a wild cat, they weren’t surprised to see him go.
“Incredibly, Thor returned to Geraldine’s house right after Randy died.
“Somehow Thor knew she needed a loving presence. He wasn’t there to replace Randy, but to provide solace and care. Because of her grief, Thor stayed with her for a long time, until June 2024. And then he decided to return to the wild. So she didn’t see him for quite a while.
“On Geraldine’s birthday at 4:24 in the morning, she felt a kitty nuzzling her. It was Thor!
“How did he get in? Geraldine leaves a window open for the cats to get in and out. Since she has a wood stove to keep her room warm, it’s not an issue.
“Can you believe it? Gone from June to September with no visits to her house at all during that time. And then he came back on her birthday!
“Thor stayed with her, snuggling and sleeping for a few hours and then left! What a birthday present!
“Geraldine and I talked for an hour and a half about how much she loves Thor and how much he means to her!
“At one point, we caught Thor in the mating barn, hoping to bring him inside. But it was not meant to be.
“As my friend Sandy came in to feed him, Thor was sitting on the wood pile. When she bent down to take the food bowls, Thor launched onto her back and jumped outside through the nearest window!
He only lasted three days inside.
“Because I was taking Maribeth’s UConnect class, I contacted Thor telepathically.
“I asked, ‘Thor, what are you doing?’
“He said, ‘Mom, I’m wild and free!’ In my heart, I know that those words came from Thor, no one else.
“And then I got a picture in my head of a young man on a Harley Davidson just shooting off into the wild! Just like the movie, Easy Rider!
“To me, Thor’s a furry little angel.
“Our communication helped me feel better about allowing him to be wild. It’s what he wanted.
“And most importantly, because what he did for Geraldine would never happen if I kept him inside.”
From Maribeth: FYI, I’m not taking a position here on outdoor/indoor cats. I’m just sharing one cat’s story. Because it’s heartwarming and shows what non-human species are capable of.
Do you have a special story like Thor’s? We’d love to hear it!
